Mandarfen village besides hotels, has a few sports stores with a very nice selection. From the Rifflesee area, one can easily ski down (via paths 2 and 1) to the glacier area, which can otherwise be reached also by taking a free bus ( 2 minutes ride, stops in front of the Rifflesee lift). a few free-rides (recommended only with a guide due to danger of avalanche-triggering). This is the Rifflsee lift connecting to the Rifflsee skiing area with many well maintained slopes for all skill levels incl. ![]() However, the distance to the nearest ski lift is really short - I would guess 150m (500ft). Location: This is not a ski-in/ski-out type of resort common in North America. From the ski room, one gets to the his/her room easily using elevators. There is a locker room (Skiraum) in the basement (accessible directly from the street) with heated lockers to leave skis, poles, and boots (the boot heaters inside the locker seemed to be on only for a few hours at night - we had to take the boot liners out and to the room to dry completely a few times when really wet). ![]() No fridge, but the balcony served well in March. Hotel: large three-story building in a traditional style, clean, with various types of rooms (see website), mostly with balconies, modern bathrooms with a very nice multifunctional shower (steam, rain, etc), flat screen TV.
